Ever catch yourself going on a 5 minute rant to share a 5 second thought?
We over-embellish — a lot. We feel a need to elaborate on several aspects of the thought.
They ask “What did you think of the meeting?”
The 5 second thought…
“I liked it. It was informative, impactful and it will move work forward.”
The 5 minute rant…
“It was good seeing the whole team. I hadn’t seen Billy in over a month! I remember us meeting back in the summer — we were covering some of the business numbers at that time. I didn’t expect to see a lot of the team there blah blah blah……”
Ok, I’m done.
The 5 second thought = “Don’t over-embellish communication just share the thought – get to the point.
