Yesterday night, my first single dropped. You can find it on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, and even Facebook (still checking TikTok). Just search Happy Human and the track is called Let It Be Born.
In this episode of Happy Human, I’m sharing the journey behind that release... how it started, what it taught me, and why I think the creative act is really just about opening doors. You knock. You try. You see what’s behind it.
The inspiration behind Let It Be Born came from this idea of when something chooses you. An idea lands, and now it’s your move. That idea could choose multiple people, but who’s actually going to make it real? Who’s going to give it sound, color, shape? That’s the job... to let it be born into the world.
The cover art shows a yellow tin can stuffed with tools from different creative industries... because creativity is messy like that. It’s not one lane. It’s a mixed bag of skills and attempts and tools you collect along the way.
This wasn’t my first time messing with music. I bought a MIDI keyboard back in 2021. Made a few things. Then left it sitting there. But last week, something pulled me back in. I don’t even remember what triggered it. I just plugged it in and started playing. I don’t know how to play piano “correctly,” but I know rhythm. I know what sounds good to my ear. So I got to work.
Logic Pro’s been my main tool lately for podcast production. I’d already been layering voice, music, and experimenting with sound. So the transition to composing a full track felt natural. Seven or eight versions later, the final one clicked. I wasn’t trying to perfect it... I just let it build. Happy accidents, like Bob Ross would say. The snare came in. The synths stacked up. It came alive.
I did most of the production using $9 headphones. Yeah, I have studio headphones too, but I wanted to hear how it’d sound on the kind of headphones people actually use. I’d drive around listening to test versions, take them to the gym, play them through different speakers. It became a rhythm... create, test, adjust, repeat.
Once the track was done, I had to figure out how to actually release it. There's a backend to music. Distribution, file formatting, copyright, all that. I used DistroKid to get it out quickly, but you can also use CD Baby or others. The point is... the info is out there. The tools are available. You just have to start opening doors and figuring it out.
That’s one of the big takeaways I share in this episode. You learn as you go. No blueprint. Just motion. And the more you build, the more you can build. I’m not just making music for hype. I’m building a sound I can use for future projects... for painting, for events, for the brand. That ambient, low bop feel... you can have a conversation over it.
Also, I wanted this to be proof of concept. No more “I’m working on it.” Now it exists. Go search Let It Be Born by Happy Human. That’s it. It’s out there.
You’ll hear in the episode how this act of finishing something changes how you collaborate too. You bring more to the table. You’re not just pitching ideas... you’re showing them. You’re building the plan and then sharing it. That’s what this was for me.
So if you’ve got something you’ve been sitting on... let it be born.
Check out the music, check out the merch at happyhuman.studio, or get the app (App Store or Google Play), sign up, and become a member. I’ll give you a Happy Human badge when you do.
And if you’re listening on Spotify, follow the show, download the episode, leave a comment, and share it with someone who's building something new.
