#87 ON Finding yourself in the Minus

It’s been a few days. Life’s been shifting behind the scenes. But the sun came up again today, and I’m still here... still creating.

This month, I set a goal to make 15 podcast episodes. I think I’m at 10. So I’ve got a few days to close strong. Been producing music, dropping episodes, writing these blog posts. You can find all of it on the Happy Human Studio app.

And just so we’re clear... I don’t have it all figured out. Neither do you. No one does. But one thing I do know... we can keep moving. Keep going.

I came across Wayne Dyer’s work back in 2017, a couple of years after he passed. In one of his PBS talks, he shared this idea about growth... how even if you stare at your fingernails and will them to stop growing, they won’t. Life moves forward. Energy moves forward. That’s how it works.

But what makes it tough these days is social media. It keeps moving, even when you’re in the middle of your own storm. It shows you the polished versions. The wins. The filtered joy. And you’re like... damn, I’m still over here figuring stuff out. You start comparing. You forget they’re just humans too. That their journey has cracks just like yours.

And when you create from that comparison mindset? You lose your real self. You start chasing instead of building. You copy trends, make replicas of other people’s ideas. But the internet is smart now. People track down the original. They’ll find the real version and call it out.

That’s why you gotta create from within.

This week, I released another track called Surprise!. It’s chill background music... music to create to, vibe to, just live around. But it didn’t come out of nowhere. I've always been drawn to music. Years ago, I was on a trip to South Padre with some friends, mixing tracks on Virtual DJ in the hotel room. That was my 20s. Now it’s a whole different level.

The track Let It Be Born started with a MIDI keyboard I bought four years ago. It had been collecting dust. Then, a few weeks ago, something shifted. I started playing. No big plan. Just letting it come out. And from that came more. The music kept flowing. The ideas kept showing up.

I’ve been thinking about genre, but truthfully... I don’t want one. I’m just making what I want to hear. If I like it, chances are someone else will too. And that’s enough to keep going.

The theme lately... what keeps showing up in my mind... is this find yourself in the minus. Not in the wins. In the lows. In the quiet. That’s where the real work happens.

The Happy Human brand has a plus and minus sign for a reason. Everyone wants the positives... good health, career success, opportunities. But the minuses? That’s where you learn. That’s where the weight comes from. That’s what gives the brand its meaning.

I’ve lived a lot of minus moments. And I’ve tried to build from them, instead of running. That’s what I want this brand to represent. That’s what I want these songs and blog posts and podcast episodes to carry.

So wherever you are... whether you’re in a plus or a minus, I hope you pause long enough to shape something honest out of it. That’s how we mold the clay.

Go check out the new track, Surprise, on Spotify or Apple Music under the artist name Happy Human. The app is live at happyhuman.studio with music, blog posts, and more behind-the-scenes coming soon.

If you’re in the minus right now, leave a negative sign in the comments. If you’re riding a wave, drop a positive. Either way, you’re a Happy Human.
