billboards & portraits

I drove down the interstate highway that runs through the city today and noticed there were a few billboards up advertising food, legal services, safety messages and financial instutions.

What benefit does putting a of yourself in front of your message have for the target audience? I’m not part of your particular audience, however, if I were I would probably not call someone who is focused on themselves. I want them to focus on my issue. If I needed the service, I would not need to see you because I’m not shopping for a suit, in need of a haircut or in the market for a jewelry piece or anything like that.

I don’t get it. I think if people need your service they would need to know what you help resolve, a phone number to call and your business hours to know when to call. This would lead to a call, then they would meet you and if you know what you’re doing and can resolve their issue by starting with guidance then you’ll get the business.

If the image on the billboard is for trust and first impressions, this doesn’t work. It doesn’t for me.

Now the “THINK GOD” billboards are another story. They are simple and the message is powerful.
