Nixon High School in Laredo, Texas hired Sketch to design and paint a mural on their gym wall. Sketch came up with the design and a few of the Digital Republic guys and I jumped in to help.
I was balancing this with work and home life so I would swing by during the afternoons to help him paint. I hadn’t painted on a scaffold but I can tell you it was pretty high from up there so stabilizing oneself while painting was challenging (for me).
A couple of things I learned was transferring a digital image onto a big wall like this, when I worked on the G7 wall mural I used a stencil to create the art. There was a projector used from about half-court to put the picture up on the wall. The second thing I learned was that in order for the brighter colors to remain bright we had to do a white under layer first as the dark green paint as the base would have dulled all the colors.
Here are some photos from these past couple of weeks. It’s turning out badass and I’m glad I got a chance to be a part of it. This mural will probably be up for some time…
I got to paint my doodle pattern on that wall as well.
