Artists become investors of time, energy and money. They are angel investors because they invest in an idea, a thought, a form of inspiration without really knowing where it’s going to end. I read Jason Calacanis’ book ANGEL where he breaks down how to become an angel investor and I thought it would be good to use this guide as an analogy for how artists operate as investors.
Artists become investors of time when they set out on a course of action to create their next art piece. They allocate time to the idea and inspiration behind this drive of theirs. There are a couple of questions that an artist can ask just like an angel investor and one of them is to ask “why are you doing this?”. A founder seeking investment from an angel investor is like an idea seeking investment from an artist. The founder has to share why they are doing this and the artist has to ask themselves why they are pursuing this idea. This is when the artist takes the step into investing the energy that moves their whole being into allocating some of it to make their idea a reality.
