Is that even possible?
Let me tell you why I think it is…
When a surgeon performs surgery on a patient they have their tools, their procedures ready to go and the canvas (in this case a human) is always different. Ok, maybe that analogy is crap, let’s say a bodyshop mechanic is going to restore the car you just crashed — he needs his tools but the canvas (the crashed car) is always different.
Both of these individuals have their tools and their canvas in front of them. The creativity is only possible because of the prior organization of the tools, procedures, scheduled time and skill set.
The same thing with creative people – you have your tools (paint brushes, a piano, a piece of wood and nails, a camera, a video camera, you name it…) and you have your skillset. The skillset maybe at amateur level or you might be a professional and your canvas in this case is the new project you are taking on in the form of a blank piece of paper for your next story, a canvas for your next painting, an open project on Logic Pro X for your next song or Adobe Premiere Pro for your next video.
You have your tools and your skillset and an idea, now it’s time to create.
This next series of posts will be focused on how we organize ourselves as creatives so we can… well… create stuff. My previous series focused on artists and the different roles they play and this can be thought of as a follow up to that because now I will be focused on how we organize the creativity. How we can bring order into chaos.
Ok, stay tuned.
