It’s so easy to accumulate stuff — some stuff you accumulate without even wanting to, like birthday gifts.
It’s so hard to get rid of the stuff in our lives — there’s even a minimalist documentary about this.
The sunk costs associated with the stuff keeps us from throwing the stuff away. So we accumulate and accumulate and struggle — we struggle with subtracting it.
A good rule of thumb is if you have a “want” that you WANT to buy then you should take inventory if you already have something like it. If you do have something like it then you can ask “why do I need this? why do I want this new one?”
I saw that the guys featured on this minimalist documentary published a book about minimalism.
It’s so contradicting — the thought for me goes along the lines of “Minimalism is the way to go — you just have to read all these rules in this book that you will now accumulate in your mind and on your book shelf.”
It’s like the “You want to save money? — I got the answer for you! If you just buy my course for $497” — So in other words, you will start saving money after you spend your potential savings on this course.
We accumulate so many things but the main thing we accumulate is information.
We accumulate this from everywhere around us. Work, social media, billboards, radio, the conversations going on near you and the thoughts others share with you and many more information entry-ways.
Once it’s in your mind… you will struggle to remove what doesn’t work.
Accumulate less! — after this post of course… (shaking my head) sorry.
